Plastic injection molding: what is overmolding?
Abery Mold provides a number of specialized plastic injection molding services, including overmolding. Overmolding is a process which combines two or more molded plastic or elastomer parts into a single finished product.
In the overmolding process, the base layer part is molded first, then the additional plastic layer(s) are molded over and around the original part. A common example of overmolding is a toothbrush with a stiff frame and rubberized grips on the handle.
